MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — The Monongalia County Sheriff’s Office is mourning the sudden loss of Deputy Noah Thompson, a respected detective and dedicated public servant whose commitment to serving the community left a lasting impact on colleagues and residents alike.
Deputy Thompson, a Morgantown native, served with the Monongalia County Sheriff’s Office for seven years. A graduate of Morgantown High School, he was known for his professionalism, compassion, and unwavering dedication to helping others throughout his law enforcement career.
In a previous “Behind the Badge” feature published by the Sheriff’s Office, Thompson shared what inspired him to pursue a career in law enforcement.
“I was inspired to pursue a career in law enforcement because I wanted to help people and not work in a place where my day is the same every day,” he said.
Reflecting on his role as a deputy, Thompson described the greatest reward of his job as making a positive difference in people’s lives.
“The most rewarding part of my job is knowing that when I take care of someone’s problem, their day can be better,” he said. He also acknowledged that one of the biggest challenges early in his career was learning the county’s geography and identifying the most efficient routes to respond to calls for service.
Outside of his duties, Thompson expressed a deep appreciation for Monongalia County, naming Cooper’s Rock Trout Pond as his favorite place in the area. He credited fellow deputies as the greatest influence on his career, saying they continually challenged him to improve and become a better law enforcement officer.
“I would say the biggest influence on my career has been the various deputies I have worked with over the years that have challenged me to be better at my job each and every day,” he said.
In a lighthearted moment during the interview, Thompson revealed that if he could spend a day as any fictional character, he would choose Batman—a reflection of the heroic spirit many who knew him say he embodied throughout his career.
The Monongalia County Sheriff’s Office has expressed its condolences as colleagues, friends, and members of the community remember Thompson’s service, dedication, and the positive impact he made both in uniform and beyond.
